Overview
This report presents the results of the inspections conducted by the Victorian Inspectorate from 1 January to 30 June 2021 of Victorian agencies authorised to use surveillance devices.
Introduction
The Surveillance Devices Act 1999 imposes strict controls on the use of surveillance devices by Victorian law enforcement agencies.
Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning's ‘Intelligence and Investigations Unit’ administers surveillance device warrants issued to the agency.
Game Management Authority
The Game Management Authority has yet to make an application under the SD Act, and as a result no files were inspected by the VI for the period
Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission
The VI inspected 17 surveillance device warrants issued to the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission
Victorian Fisheries Authority
The VI inspected 2 surveillance device files at the Victorian Fisheries Authority.
Victoria Police
The VI inspected all surveillance device files made available for inspection by Victoria Police’s Special Projects Unit and Technical Projects Unit.
