The SIM was created under section 4 of the Major Crime (Special Investigations Monitor) Act 2004 and started operation on 16 November 2004. It ceased operation on 10 February 2013 on the repeal of that Act. For more information, find the Schedule to the Victorian Inspectorate Act 2011.
